Remote Access with Air TV

**Update** Air TV now supports auto
port-forwarding. Please make sure your router has UPNP
turned on. With UPNP, no additional configuration is needed
for remote access. If your router does not support UPNP,
please procede with the instructions below on manual
port-forwarding.
If you want to take your iPhone/iPod outside your home network
but still want to view with Air TV (either using another Wi-Fi
hotspot or using 3G), you will need to configure your home router to
allow remote access to Air TV.
In most cases, your computer resides within your home network
that is connected to the Internet via a router (provided by your
broadband carrier or purchased separately). Your router is
responsible for routing the traffic between your home network and
the Internet. Most routers ship with built-in firewall that prevents your
computer from being accessed (as a server) from the
Internet. This presents a problem if you want to remotely
access Air TV, since the firewall does not allow the access when
your iPhone/iPod is connected from the Internet.
Fortunately, most routers also provide ways to overwrite the
default firewall settings. In order to allow remote access of
Air TV, you will need to configure the router to route all incoming
TCP traffic at port 1728 to your
computer.
Since there are zillions of different routers out there in the
market, there is no way for us to provide the general instructions
on how to configure every one of them. Here, we are providing the
instructions for a number of common models. If you do not have
the same model, you can still get a feel on what needs to be done,
and then consult the user manual of your router to change the
configuration.
If your router is not listed above, you can use
the general instructions provided by
portforward.com.
You will need to allow port forwarding on TCP port 1728.
Important: If you decide to allow remote
access of Air TV, you should provide a password to Air TV (click
the "iPhone/iPod" button of Air TV for PC, enter the password, and
click "Set").
