How to Establish Connection without Shared Wi-Fi

Many times you might not have access to a shared Wi-Fi connection to connect your PC and your iPhone/iPod Touch.  For instance, you might be presenting at another company, and the company might not be willing to give you access to their networks.

In this case, you can still use i-Clickr by establishing an ad hoc wireless connection between your PC and your iPhone/iPod Touch.  Please use the following instructions.

Ad Hoc Connection on Windows XP and Vista

Step 1

Start i-Clickr on your host PC.  If you do not have i-Clickr on your host PC, download it from

Step 2

On the Listener Status panel, expand Direct Wireless.  Click Start to start direct (ad hoc) connection.  This will set your PC wireless card to ad hoc mode.

On some computers, the above step might fail with the message "Cannot set adapter to normal mode."  If that happens, please click here for further instruction:

Step 3

On your iPhone/iPod Touch, go to Settings -> Wireless

Step 4

Turn on wireless and select the connection "i-Clickr"

*NOTE*  Windows Vista and Windows 7:
You might not see the "i-Clickr" WiFi network on your iPhone/iPod Touch right away.

Ciick here for additional steps on Windows 7.

Step 5

Wait for your iPhone/iPod Touch to make the connection to your PC.  Be patient, as this process might take up to a minute.  When the connection is made successfully, you should see an IP address in your i-Clickr PC Control.

Step 6

Start i-Clickr on your iPhone/iPod.  You should see your host PC listed with the tag "Direct connection using Bonjour."

If you are getting "Unable to connect ..." message when you connect, please check your firewall settings.  For Windows 7, click here on how to configure Windows Firewall for ad hoc connections.
